About The Estate:
We first encountered the incredible wines of Stewart Cellars over a lunch in Napa at which CEO James Stewart also happened to be. He poured us his Beckstoffer Las Piedras Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 and it was unlike anything we'd ever tried from this hallowed site. We made a point of seeking out James later that week and had a chance to try more of the range with him, as well as his winemaker Blair Guthrie. The energy and intensity of the wines was staggering, a truly modern and exciting approach to Napa's most famous 'Grand Crus'. James and the Team at Stewart Cellars were as excited as us about the bringing their wines to the UK, and we're delighted to be flying the Stewart banner on this side of the pond.
At Stewart Cellars, it's the quest that inspires: the quest for the ideal site; for consistently lush fruit; for the like-minded grower who labours toward the perfect expression of a vineyard. Stewart have built lasting relationships with viticulturists and together test the limits of what an exceptional patch of soil can yield. Their requirement for the resulting wine is simple: it must deliver beyond expectation every time.
This ongoing quest has lead them to some of the most respected vineyards across the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Their focus is on vineyard designate wines that exemplify the terroir of their respective vineyards, and their intention with each bottle is to fulfill this promise a thousand times over – only the best of the best bears the Stewart family name.
Founded in 2000, Stewart Cellars is the collaborative project of founder Michael Stewart, his son James Stewart, daughter Caroline Stewart Guthrie, and son-in-law Blair Guthrie.
Together, the family oversees all aspects of the winery’s operations: James, an artist who left behind a burgeoning career in television and music for hands-on work in sales, marketing and distribution; Caroline, who leads the day to day operations along with each wine’s development; and Blair, the winemaker who works closely alongside their acclaimed consulting winemaker to capture the signature terroir of Stewart’s premier vineyards and vineyard sources.
For these two generations and for the Stewart clan of tomorrow, the ambition remains the same: respect the terroir, source the best fruit, strive for perfection, and embrace the elegance of the human touch.
Michael Stewart sold the technology company he founded and ran for 25 years in Texas, before moving to Napa to follow his dream of starting a winery.
