About The Wine
To Kalon Vineyard® is sited between the sheltering Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges deep in the Napa Valley, with well-drained, gravelly soil that allows the vines to root deeply to find precious moisture and nutrients. The broad diurnal temperature shifts and reliable sun, wind, and fog provide the ideal blend of growth and rest for complex flavor development.
The result of heavy winter rains, a relatively warm summer, and a mild autumn, this stunning Cabernet captures the aromatic intensity and textural delicacy of the 2017 vintage. Harvested in the first days of October, the grapes had the opportunity to develop fully, contributing to rounded tannins, perfume, and heightened level of natural acidity.
The grapes were carefully fermented after a thoughtful sorting at the winery and macerated on the skins for almost 30 days on average to fully burnish the tannins and maximize the potential of the vineyard. The wine was then aged for 22 months in new French oak to enhance the aromatic complexity of the wine and add weight and length. Already appealing in its youth, it will become more complex in the coming years and should age well for at least 15–20 years in the bottle.
To Kalon Vineyard Co. Highest Beauty Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
"Features warmed loam, hot stone and smoldering tobacco aspects, with a lush and deeply layered core of plum sauce and blackberry preserve flavors, steadily expanding as it airs in the glass. A big wine, beautifully rendered and very grounded. Best from 2022 through 2040."

"Coming from the talented Andy Erickson and a tiny production cuvée based all on To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Highest Beauty sports a dense purple hue as well as a gorgeous nose of crème de cassis, lead pencil, Asian spices, flowery incense, and sandalwood. As with many 2017s (as well as wines from Erickson), it has a slightly Bordeaux style in its texture and tannins and is medium to full-bodied, with terrific purity of fruit, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This beautiful, elegant wine can be drunk any time over the coming two decades or more."
