About The Wine
2016 was a dream vintage in Napa Valley, providing ideal conditions and producing wines of incredible energy and vineyard expression.
The family began crafting the Stewart wines 20 years ago with a promise in mind; delivering exceptional, age worthy wines, while taking you on a journey. The NOMAD Collection builds upon that promise with an exploration of Napa Valley’s most exquisite vineyards and their unique terroir as Stewart Cellars showcases the Beckstoffer Heritage Vineyards.
The Beckstoffer Dr. Crane vineyard is located on the lower slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in east-Saint Helena. The Stewart Cellars Dr. Crane is from 100% Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon that was planted in 1996, harvested in October 2016.
Whole-berry fermentaion in stainless steel fermenters was followed by wet cap immersion, totalling 28 days of maceration. It was racked into French oak barrells (95% new) for 22 months prior to bottling.
Stewart Cellars NOMAD Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Nomad Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane gives fragrant cassis, plums and blueberry preserves with violets, earth and bay leaves suggestions. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers pretty perfumed black fruit in mouth with firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory."
96+ points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Advocate, Oct. 2019)
"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon NOMAD Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, from a great site in St. Helena, is deep purple and has rocking notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco leaf, and damp, gravelly earth. It shows the more linear, straight style of the vintage yet has beautiful purity of fruit, ripe tannins, and just everything in the right place. It's a stunning wine."
