About The Wine
Ranging from the very top of the property, five clonal selections planted in 2012 of Pommard, Swan, 2A, 667 and 115 comprise this 100% estate bottling. Steep slopes marked with limestone deposits, botella clay and sandy loam profiles.
The grapes were harvested in October at a Brix of 24.0, and had 12 months élevage in neutral French oak barrels.
SPEAR Estate Pinot Noir 2018
"Moving to the reds, the 2018 Pinot Noir Estate was 70% destemmed and brought up in neutral oak. It has a beautiful perfume of ripe strawberry and raspberries intermixed with notes of spring flowers and spice. This carries to a medium-bodied, elegant Pinot with nicely integrated acidity and a great finish. It's a classy, balanced, terrific 2018."
94 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Aug. 2020)
"A brilliant first impression on the nose, lots of savoury herbs, fresh thyme and oregano, and creaminess caps it off, with just a hint of salted caramel. the palate is pure WOW! There's a spicy, white pepper note on the front of the palate, leading to a great structure and core of bramble fruit, crisp blackberries. The finish is super-mineral, and captivating. It's gorgeous now, but feels like there is boundless potential. Gorgeous!"
