About The Wine:

L’Age D’Or comes from a vineyard just north of Sebastopol adjacent to the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the largest tributary of the Russian River. Originally planted in 1971, these are among the oldest Chardonnay vines in the Russian River Valley. The vineyard is immaculately and sustainably managed.

Having white Burgundies as benchmarks, especially the wines of Raveneau, Jobard and Coche, Don and Claude were never to anxious to even attempt to craft Chardonnay in the new world as they had always felt that the wines were sometimes over the top with buttery pop corn mouth feel, way too much oak, high alcohol and clunky. Their success with Sauvignon Blanc, and especially with St. Andelain, convinced them to begin a three year commitment with a fabulous, well-established vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Their willingness to experiment with different vinification as well as aging for 16 months in 600L thick stave barrels (44% new) results in a Chardonnay of great elegance, length and verve; very Meursault-like.

In Santé Magazine, A Voce Sommelier Olivier Flosse says of Soliste L'Age D'Or Chardonnay, "This may be my favorite wine of the last two years". Praise indeed, and indicative of why Soliste's wines are so popular among the great sommeliers.

The 2012 growing season climatic conditions were ideal in every sense of the word. We harvested at night and thoroughly sorted in the winery. Following a gentle 50% whole cluster pressing, the juice was settled for 24 hours before transferring to 600L Taransaud barrels for fermentation sur lie. Malolactic fermentation was arrested to preserve brightness and focus.

  • "Light golden yellow color in the glass. The nose leads with scents of lemon oil, green apple, pear and white flower bouquet. Slightly creamy on the palate, with flavors of salted apple, brioche, lemon curd and baked apple. Impressive finesse yet satisfying drive. A Somm’s wine."

90 points, William Gaffney (Prince of Pinot, Aug. 2017)

"Pure, elegant and deeply layered, there's a lovely light creamy note - almost soured cream - lees and stony minerality framed by a delicate accent of acacia honey. Restrained, but delicious. The palate is a story of acisidt and texture. It's super-pure, incredible clean and crisp with tart apples flavours leading to a gorgeously textured mid-palate and mineral finish. Great length to this superb Chardonnay. Don told us that Coche Dury and Roulot were two benchmarks for their Chardonnay - they hit the nail squarely on the head in 2012."
