About The Wine:
The 2015 growing season began with a warm, early spring after a mild and relatively dry winter. Cool late spring temperatures led to a delayed flowering, and in some blocks, slightly less uniformity of the fruit set. Persistent management of the canopy, strategically placed shade cloth, and meticulously implemented thinning strategies throughout the entire growing season provided each vine with the exacting attention needed, and ensured the individual ripening of each and every small, but precious, cluster. The harvest concluded within exactly one month under ideal conditions, allowing each vine the hang time necessary to reach its optimal point of maturity.
Since its debut with the 2004 vintage, ASTERISK Proprietary Red (500 cases made each vintage) represents the second cuvée from SLOAN ESTATE, showcasing an alternate yet elegant and compelling expression of the terroir. Charming and bold, it is made from mostly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Produced under the same obsessive attention to detail and unyielding standards as SLOAN, ASTERISK is juicy and sensual, offering an explosion of fruit aromas and flavours. While it holds the promise of aging potential, it is a splendidly inviting wine that is intended to satisfy the desire for instant gratification.
The wine sees 26 months in French Oak, (Darnajou and Taransaud) 100% new. Martha and the team process half of the fruit by barrel fermentation and half in stainless steel to help better manage the smaller lots. All wines see an extended maceration period after a cold soak.
SLOAN ESTATE ASTERISK Proprietary Red 2015
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Asterisk comes charging out of the gate with exuberant black and red cherries, warm cassis and raspberry pie scents plus hints of cigar box, Indian spices, rose hip tea and charcuterie with a faint waft of dusty soil. Full-bodied and firmly textured, with bags of red and black fruits, the palate is laced with loads of spicy accents, and it finishes long and perfumed.”
