About The Wine:
"This blessed plot, this earth, this realm..." Immortal lines from William Shakespeare’s King Richard II, the source of Realm’s – and this wine’s – name.
Realm Cellars has made this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend since 2003, their tribute to the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Juan and Benoit consider The Bard to be the quintessential wine of Realm: a dense, weighty and concentrated wine that year in and year out showcases the very best Cabernet Sauvignon of Napa Valley.
Comprised of fruit from the Stags Leap District to Calistoga, The Bard 2016 is a big, beautiful, multi-dimensional wine that is arguably Realm Cellars’ most complete. The flavours are rich, concentrated and explosive, yet the lasting impression is freshness, elegance and precision. 2016 was the first vintage made from start to finish in Realm Cellars’ own, new winery in the Stags Leap District and this additional control shows in the quality of the wine. The Bard is an excellent reflection of an auspicious Napa Valley vintage.
In 2016 the Cabernet Sauvignon is from Realm’s Estate vineyard in the Stags Leap District, Beckstoffer To Kalon, Houyi, and Blair. The Merlot is from Realm’s Estate Vineyard, Fortuna and Beckstoffer Orchard. The Petit Verdot is from Larkmead.

Realm Cellars The Bard 2016
"The 2016 The Bard is very deep purple-black in color and sashays out of the glass with strikingly beautiful violets, warm cassis, star anise and chocolate mint notes with hints of wood smoke, tobacco and kirsch, with blackberry compote at the core. Full, muscular and built like a brick house with layer upon layer of black, blue and red fruits, it finishes very long and savory."

"Reminding me of a slightly fresher version of the 2013 (which is common for wines from the vintage), the 2016 The Bard checks in as 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Still inky hued, with a gorgeous perfume of blue and black fruits, crushed stone, violets, and graphite, this awesome wine is full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, has perfectly ripe tannins, and a solid spine of acidity that keeps the wine surprisingly fresh and lively. This ultra-classic, concentrated, incredibly impressive Cabernet Sauvignon will keep for 30 years or more. While the 2012 and 2015 are in the more opulent style, this is closer in style to the 2013 and 2018."
