About The Wine
John Sebastiano Vineyard is located on the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. The raised elevation of this vineyard exposes this spot to an extra dose of the winds that the appellation is famous for. Cool nights and constant wind make for grapes that show great concentration and lend themselves to the magic of gifted winemaker Wynne Solomon, yielding extraordinary wines. Clones 667, Swan and Mount Eden were used, and the wine was aged in 100% French oak (55% new).
The John Sebastiano Vineyard is not the easiest land to farm. While approximately one thousand acres (405 hectares) in size, only about 15% of the property is planted to vines. The land is dominated by intense slopes with sharp, windy ridge lines and deep craggy ravines. But without all those hurdles the vineyard probably would not exhibit the power, structure, and personality we experience from the wines it produces.
Peake Ranch John Sebastiano Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
"From a vineyard on the other side of the Sta. Rita Hills from Peake Ranch, the 2018 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard has a slightly more vibrant style in its black raspberry, violets, Bing cherry, and sappy flower aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, with beautiful purity and elegant, it's another terrific wine from this up-and-coming estate that warrants attention."
