About the Wine
The vines from the steeply terraced, Betty's Vineyard on Mount Veeder struggle for nourishment and moisture consistently producing clusters with small berries and intense flavors. Wines from this vineyard have been highly acclaimed through the media since the first vintage in 2002, for their power and elegance. Aromatically, there are noticeable lavender and violet tones emanating from this property. O'Shaughnessy acquired this property in 2000 and farm only 17 acres on this remote 42-acre estate.
The 265 acre Woolls Ranch was purchased in 2006 and produced its first fruit in 2012. The O'Shaughnessy team has 32 planted acres here and grow primarily Cabernet Sauvignon on this remarkable site. They also cultivate small blocks of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Carmenere and St. Macaire.
O'Shaughnessy Estate Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon MAGNUMS 2016
“Shockingly, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is even better. Coming from one of my favorite terroirs in the Valley and all Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in 80% new French oak, it boasts a deep, saturated purple color as well as incredible complexity in its cassis, blueberries, violets, lavender, leafy herbs, and dried earth. It's another powerful, concentrated, structured wine that shows its mountain heritage. With full body, building yet pure, silky tannins, and a huge finish, forget bottles for 4-6 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 30 years or more."
