About The Wine


The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, and saw ideal weather conditions throughout the valley. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August followed by a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, the grapes were able to progress to perfect ripeness.


The grapes were harvested on September 5th, 2016, and the wine was aged for 11 months in 30% new French oak, and 70% neutral barrels.


Founded by Larry Hyde in 1979, Hyde Vineyards is located in the heart of Napa Valley's Carneros region. Hyde Vineyards has long been hailed a grand cru-caliber site primarily known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit, used by some of the most highly acclaimed wine producers in Napa and Sonoma. In 2009, Larry decided to debut his own small-lot production Pinot Noir project and today, the Hyde Estate Winery sits looking out onto the acclaimed vineyards near the Carneros Highway corridor surrounded by 25 acres planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.


The estate features a state-of-the-art production facility and an elegant tasting room where guests are welcomed to by-appointment seated tastings of estate-grown wines showcasing several varietals made from this unique terroir.

  • "Pale to medium ruby-purple, it comes strutting out of the glass with profound notions of raspberry coulis, redcurrants, mulberries and chocolate-covered cranberries plus hints of candied violets, cinnamon cake, underbrush and rose oil. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers fantastic freshness and fantastically silky tannins, supporting the layers of soft-spoken red and black fruits. It finishes with the most amazing, long-lingering perfume. Very delicate and elegant, I imagine this will age gracefully over the next 10-12 years+. This wine is mostly sold through cellar door and a few distributors in California.


    The 2016 Pinot Noir was made from UCD 4/Pommard, Dijon 114 and Calera clones, all from the Hyde Estate vineyard on Los Carneros Avenue. Using 5% whole cluster, it was fermented entirely with native yeast and was aged in French oak, mainly Francois Freres, 30% new. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered."
