About The Wine

Sourced from the coveted Summit Block at Oakville Ranch high in the eastern red hills of Oakville, this unique wine hails from one of the finest areas in the world for growing Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Annie and Andy have been making wine from these vines for a decade, and the results are always spectacular.

The 2016 La Madgalena is a blockbuster expression of one of their favorite vineyards, Oakville Ranch, in the rugged eastern hills of Oakville. Organically farmed Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on these iron rich red soils, produce some of the most compelling wines in the Napa Valley. They have worked with these vines for over a decade. This wine, a blend of two of Annie and Andy's favourite varieties, showcases all the strength and vivacity that Oakville has to offer.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 22 months of aging, the 2016 La Magdalena is sultry, moody, and seductive. It is dark and exotic, with notes of raspberry preserves, plum, Chinese five-spice, vanilla bean, and smoke. Flavors arrive on a regal chariot of tannin, serious and structured, but very inviting. Built to last, this wine will continue to open, and will likely age for decades.

Favia La Magdalena Red Wine 2016

  • "The 2016 La Magdalena is superb. Dense, pliant and richly textured, with supremely beautiful inner perfume and depth, the 2016 has so much to offer. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, wild flowers, espresso, mint, rose petal and spice notes abound in this mid-weight, yet deeply flavored Cabernet Sauvignon. Just as it was from barrel, La Magdalena is wonderfully lifted and nuanced."

"Slightly deeper and richer, with powerful notes of purple and blue fruits, the 2016 La Magdalena (55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up complex spring flowers, violets, and graphite notes, full body, thrilling purity of fruit, present tannins, and a great, great finish. There’s plenty of underlying structure here and the cellar is going to be your friend. Regardless, it’s a gorgeous wine."
