About The Wine

The Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard in Saint Helena was the first site ever produced by Fait-Main. The stony, tough soils in the middle of a typically soft and rich valley floor, create a full-bodied wine with sumptuous complexity. The richly layered palate that each vintage has expressed thus far, shows the site’s compelling interplay of fruit and structure, bound together with graceful minerality.

The 2018 growing season was truly a winemaker’s dream - foggy mornings followed by perfect afternoon sun, with moderate temperatures thanks to cool day breezes and refreshing nights. The year started with little winter rain and a mild spring, leading to a rather late bud break and healthy flowering/fruit set. As an overly generous crop developed, rigorous canopy management and crop thinning was required to manage yields.

The ripening was slow, steady and flawless, with late verasion and relatively delayed picking dates. Absent was the threat of heatwaves, even during late summer, which allowed us to harvest at our own pace across all our sites in the Napa Valley.

In essence, these remarkable conditions lead to wines that are packed with purity, freshness, vibrancy and energy, reminiscent of an earlier era from decades ago. The wine was aged in 75% new French Oak.

Fait-Main Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

  • "Another just about off-the-charts beauty, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard offers up a full-bodied, structured, flawlessly balanced style as well as lots of blue fruits, notes of violets, flowers, and crushed stone, silky yet building tannins, and a great finish. While this vineyard is a stone’s throw from Dr. Crane, it always yields a more mineral-driven, elegant wine, and this beauty excels on all accounts. I'd be thrilled to drink a bottle any time over the coming 20-25 years."
