About The Wine
The Estate Blend provides a snapshot of Epoch vineyards and their specific winemaking practices within every vintage. Though Syrah consistently takes the lead, the exact blend of varieties varies from vintage to vintage. Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Tempranillo regularly play key roles in this wine with occasional cameos from Zinfandel and other varieties.
The 2013 Estate Blend was sourced from two of Paso's 'Grand Cru' vineyards, Paderewski and Catapault, both owned by Epoch.
It was fermented (17% whole cluster) in concrete and stainless steel tanks, and large French oak puncheons. It was racked into and aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (33% new) and puncheons. It was bottled in March 2015.
Epoch Estate Wines Estate Blend 2013
"The entry-level release is the 2013 Estate Blend and it's 32% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 10% Tempranillo and 8% Zinfandel. Seeing lots of co-fermentation and aging in 33% new French oak puncheons, it's juicy and forward, with plump and forward notes of plums, blackberries, pepper, underbrush and hints of violets. Full-bodied, sexy and textured, yet always classy and easy drinking, it should evolve nicely for 4-5 years. Incorporating all of the varieties of the estate, it's a great intro into the style of Epoch.”
