About the Wine:


The grapes were sourced from the Estate, and neighbouring York Creek Vineyards, with the entire blend being solely from the Spring Mountain Appellation and all under estate control. Each lot's time frame of maceration was based individually on each lots extraction, from 13 to 23 days. Each Vineyard block was then aged separately for 22 months, the barrels being French oak and 70% new. The addition of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot spiced up the blend and added more structure and complexity to the wine.


The 2014 vintage atop Spring Mountain was the third in a string of three great vintages. There was not much of a winter, with far below average rainfall. A moderate spring lead into a record breaking summer for high temperatures. However the diurnal effect from our mountain top allowed for very cool nights aiding the vine in slowing down any rapid ripening of the fruit. The small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot were ready first, but just a few weeks following the many different sections of the Cabernet Sauvignon reached physiological ripeness. Sourced from the estate and neighbouring vineyards under Estate control, this Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of mountain fruit.

  • "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot. A beautiful example of Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon with its blue and black fruits (raspberries, blueberries interwoven with white flowers), this wine has an opaque purple color, a wonderful sweet kiss of delicate oak and forest floor. It is full-bodied and rich with supple tannins. It is a classic 2014 that is approachable, and frankly irresistible already, but promises to evolve gracefully for another 15 or more years."
