About The Wine

Similar to the Estate Red, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc is done in the Bordeaux style, with the inclusion of Sémillon in the final blend. As with many Bordeaux châteaux, Sam utilises large concrete eggs for the vinification of the Sauvignon Blanc as well as new and neutral French oak.

The Sémillon is vinified separately, solely in 100% new French barrels. After 11 month of aging sur-lie, the wine is blended together with the Sauvignon Blanc and aged in bottle for an additional 18 months prior to release.

Howell Mountain is composed of mostly volcanic soils. The Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are planted in tufa, which is essentially compacted volcanic ash. Tufa is geologically very similar to the limestone soils of the left bank in Bordeaux.

Exceptional balance and structure are at the core of the Estate Sauvignon Blanc. This foundation makes it quite versatile at the dinner table. From raw seafood to hearty pork dishes, the combination of rich fruit and bright acidity make it a perfect match.

Though easy to enjoy, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc is more intellectual than it is quaffable. Whereas most Sauvignon Blanc is meant to be enjoyed for the prelude to an evening, this has the integrity to last from amuse-bouche to the final dessert of a lengthy culinary experience.

Arkenstone Howell Mountain Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2017

  • "Arriving in 2006, winemaker Sam Kaplan continues to fashion rock star wines from this Howell Mountain estate. One of the best whites from Napa, as well as one of the most ageworthy, the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Estate gives up serious notes of stone fruits, lime, orange blossom, and some obvious minerality on the nose. Made from 94% Sauvignon Blanc and 6% Semillon aged in a mix of barrel and concrete eggs, it’s full-bodied, concentrated, and textured, all while staying pure and incredibly precise on the palate. It’s a brilliant wine that I suspect will evolve for two decades."
