About The Wine

Displaying Howell Mountain’s signature concentration and complexity, QUINTVS is a rigorous barrel selection of the five distinct soil types found at ADAMVS. From the powdery gray volcanic ash to the iron-rich red clay Howell Mountain is most noted for, QUINTVS artfully represents the soil’s expression in the wine. The fruit was harvested from the highest elevation blocks on the Estate, from 30th September to 13th October, and spent an average of 27 days macerating on the skins. It was racked into 73% new French oak for 22 months prior to release.

The 2016 growing season marked the end to California’s five-year drought and offered the overall conditions for a classic Napa Valley vintage. A wet January, March, and April meant replenished soils and ultimately an early start to the season. The dry, moderately warm summer helped to support even ripening through a mild fall with few heat spikes. This ideal growing season at the ADAMVS Estate resulted in wines of great finesse, power, and complexity—perhaps the vintage of the decade?

ADAMVS Cabernet Sauvignon QUINTVS 2016

  • "More dark currants, blackberries, spring flowers, dark chocolate, and tobacco notes dominated the nose of the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon QUINTVS and it’s a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced wine that shows the pure, classic style of the 2016 vintage. All Cabernet brought up in 75% new French oak, it has subtle oak, a beautiful mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great, great finish. It has shut down slightly over the past year and needs 4-5 years of bottle age, but it’s a stunning wine."
