About The Estate:
Dalla Valle Vineyards is recognized as one of Napa Valley’s preeminent family-run wineries. Founded in 1986 by Naoko and her late husband Gustav Dalla Valle, on the famed eastern hillsides of Oakville, Dalla Valle Vineyards has earned acclaim as one of world’s most celebrated wine estates, yielding wines of extraordinary character and complexity, vintage after vintage.
Today, Dalla Valle is guided by the mother-and-daughter team of Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle, who work alongside an illustrious team that includes Winemaker Andy Erickson, Vineyard Manager Edgar Alfaro, as well as Consulting Winemaker Michel Rolland. With a shared mission that Dalla Valle thrive for generations to come, this dedicated group stewards every aspect of the viticulture and winemaking with a level of meticulous care and detail reserved for the great First Growths.
Since founding Dalla Valle Vineyards in 1986, Naoko has been the guiding force behind Dalla Valle, quietly earning a reputation as one of Napa Valley’s most respected vintners. While doing so, she has established Dalla Valle as one of the New World’s most beloved wineries. A passionate farmer, and a believer that great wines are made in the vineyard, under Naoko’s stewardship, the Dalla Valle estate has earned legendary status for the quality of its Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The embodiment of a hands-on owner, Naoko is in the vineyard almost daily, adding her three decades of winegrowing knowledge to every decision that shapes the vines and ensures the pinnacle of quality.
In 2017, Naoko was joined at Dalla Valle by her daughter, Maya, a gifted winemaker who learned her craft working at some of the world’s most iconic wineries. “I have long admired the great multigenerational wineries of Europe, so having Maya join me at Dalla Valle was always a secret dream,” says Naoko. “As a mother, working beside my daughter to preserve the vision and values that have always defined Dalla Valle is truly inspiring.”
The estate wines produced by Dalla Valle Vineyards originates in specific vineyard blocks, imbuing each with a unique sense of place. There are three wines produced each year from the estate.
Collina Dalla Valle, translating from Italian to 'Hill of the valley', is the introductory wine into the brand. This red blend is created from the younger vines on the property and offers a more approachable profile in its youth.
Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon was the first wine created from the estate in 1986. Always blended with a small fraction of Cabernet Franc, the Cabernet expresses the beauty of Dalla Valle Vineyards terroir.
Maya, named after founders Naoko and Gustav’s daughter, is a special blend of Maya’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and our best selected blocks of Cabernet Franc.
Andy Erickson has been the winemaker for Dalla Valle Vineyards since 2007. One of the most accomplished winemakers of his generation, Andy is a master at making site-specific wines that embody the character and complexity of some of the world’s greatest vineyards. At Dalla Valle, Andy works alongside Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle, and Vineyard Manager Edgar Alfaro to craft beautifully aromatic wines of profound structure and elegance.
“I came to Dalla Valle because I wanted to work with this vineyard,” says Andy. “Under Naoko’s stewardship, Dalla Valle has become one of the greatest estates in the United States. As a winemaker who loves making wines with a deep and nuanced sense of place, working with a site like Dalla Valle is a privilege and a joy.”
It took only 7 vintages for Dalla Valle to be awarded its first of many 100 point scores: the legendary Maya 1992. Crafted by Heidi Barrett, it is one of the original 'Cult Wines' of Napa that emerged to huge critical acclaim in the mid-1990s, firmly placing Napa Valley on the international stage.
Vineyard Manager Edgar Alfaro learned his trade working under David Abreu at Colgin Cellars and OVID, before moving to Dalle Valle in 2013. He was promoted to Vineyard Manager in 2014.
